Hearing-loss & sensory guide
Hearing loss
- Sit with your back to the wall so the room's noise comes from behind you and you can see faces to lip-read.
- Choose good lighting. Dim rooms make lip-reading hard.
- Small groups at round tables make conversation easier.
- Soft surfaces such as carpet, curtains and booths absorb sound. Hard, open rooms echo.
Sensory sensitivities
- Booking a reservation means less waiting in a crowded entry.
- Ask about TVs, music, open kitchens and celebration singing.
- Plan a quiet exit route, such as a seat near the door or outdoors.
